Memory foam is an incredible invention that can give great support and help relieve the pain of achy joints, but it often comes with one big (and sweaty) drawback: it can be warm to sleep on and may mean you wake up in the middle of the night.
The Octaspring Hybrid Plus mattress from Dormeo aims to solve this with its breathable Octaspring technology, but what does that mean? Here’s our Dormeo Octaspring Mattress Review so you can find out.
You might like the Dormeo Octaspring Hybrid Plus if…
You want the added confidence of great customer feedback. Dormeo mattresses are among the most highly rated by customers. This isn’t a guarantee of a great night’s sleep, but it might give you extra confidence that the Dormeo mattress you choose will live up to its promises.
You want the peace of mind of an impressive warranty. Dormeo offers a limited 20-year warranty. While this doesn’t cover things like comfort issues, it does offer confidence that you are protected if a manufacturing fault means your mattress fails within that time.
You want a no-flip mattress. While it won’t be a selling point for everyone, no-flip or no-turn mattresses can be great if you don’t want the hassle of flipping your mattress, particularly if you have issues with your health or mobility.
You want memory foam combined with pocket springs. If you are more used to a pocket sprung mattress and don’t want to leap to a full memory foam mattress, the Dormeo Octaspring Hybrid Plus might offer you a good mid-point in terms of features and feel.
You might not like the Dormeo Octaspring Hybrid Plus if…
You want a longer sleep trial than 60 nights. While we accept that most people would find two months a decent amount of time to test a mattress, we prefer to see longer trials for foam mattresses so that you can get a better feel for how the foam will compress and what that will mean for you and your sleep style and comfort.
What is the Octaspring Hybrid Plus Made Of?
The Dormeo Octaspring Hybrid Plus has a removable cover that is washable up to 30°C to help you keep your sleep environment clean and fresh.
The mattress has an 11.5cm layer of memory foam Octasprings. This is followed by a 2cm layer of Ecocells, a layer of up to 1365 individually wrapped pocket springs, and then another Ecocell layer of 6.5cm.
The Dormeo Octaspring Hybrid Plus sports 50 per cent more memory foam than the Octaspring Hybrid. Inside the mattress Dormeo groups its memory foam Octasprings into five zones that are designed to give tailored support to different parts of your body.
In total, the mattress has a depth of 27cm, just shy of 11 inches. The mattress is a medium-firm mattress.
In terms of breathability, the Dormeo Octaspring Hybrid Plus contains memory foam Octasprings which are designed to be more breathable than regular memory foam. They achieve this by letting out warm air and drawing in cooler air through the night, giving you a more comfortable sleeping experience.
The mattress is made of what Dormeo calls its “Ecofresh” material, meaning that it is resistant to allergens, dust, and mites that might give you a blocked nose or cause an allergic reaction.
The Octaspring Hybrid Plus: A Feature-Rich Mattress
This is certainly not the cheapest mattress we’ve seen and recognise that for some buyers the starting price of £1,149 for a Single-size mattress may be off-putting.
Unlike some other mattress brands, the gap in price between a Single and a Super King is reasonably small at just £700, potentially making the mattresses more affordable at the higher price end.
The range of mattress sizes here is limited to standard sizes. This is not a problem for most people but something to keep in mind if you have an existing base that comes with irregular dimensions.
The Dormeo Octaspring Hybrid Plus comes with a lot of features though, including the Octaspring technology that the company says helps to improve breathability and better temperature regulation.
This is an innovative solution to the problem of heat-retaining memory foam, and it could please hot sleepers and those in warmer climates who need the contouring of memory foam but who often get left out by the bed market.
The addition of pocket springs in this mattress could help to give you a mattress with a more responsive feel. The Octaspring Hybrid Plus also has body zones, which give tailored support to different areas of your body like your head, shoulders and legs.
The addition of pocket springs might be a red flag if you are worried about a sleep partner waking you up during the night when they turn over. The Octaspring Hybrid Plus is designed to reduce the need to turn during the night, and the memory foam layers should reduce motion transfer when it does happen.
In terms of which sleep styles might find this mattress most beneficial, we would expect it to suit nearly all sleepers.
If you are a side sleeper you may find extra comfort for your shoulders and hips in the targeted support zones, though not everyone may like that their mattress feels different in different areas.
The 20-year warranty offered by Dormeo is one of the most competitive on the market. There are some exceptions within the limited warranty that may take the shine off this generous grace period, including weight limit restrictions, but these are not unusual.
However, to find a 20-year warranty on a memory foam-containing mattress isn’t typical in today’s market and so this could give you extra reassurance that your investment is protected.
One thing that might put off some buyers however is the sleep trial is only 60 days. In fairness, 60 days should give you time to get used to the memory foam qualities of the mattress and get a feel for how it suits your sleep style
Still, a longer trial of 100 nights would be preferable to get a true picture of how the mattress will perform more long-term. This certainly isn’t a deal-breaker though.

A Short Sleep Trial But a Big Warranty
Dormeo offers a 60-night sleep trial on its Octaspring Hybrid Plus mattress, so from the day of delivery you have around two months to test the mattress.
If within that time you feel the mattress doesn’t measure up, you can contact Dormeo’s customer service team to return the mattress. Terms and conditions do apply and the mattress must still be in a good condition.
The Octaspring Hybrid Plus also comes with a 20-year warranty. This means that Dormeo will either repair or replace the mattress if the problem is the result of faulty materials or an error in manufacturing.
There are exceptions in this warranty, for example, the warranty does not cover a build-up of mould. It also does not cover the mattress losing height within a tolerance of 15 per cent. Before buying, make sure to check what is and isn’t covered and how to preserve your guarantee.

Final Thoughts
The Octaspring Hybrid Plus mattress offers the comfort of memory foam together with the support of pocket springs. It does all this while trying to solve memory foam’s main issue of temperature regulation.
This makes the Octaspring Hybrid a solid option for anyone who wants a mattress that can cradle their joints but who tends to sleep warm. As this is a no-turn mattress it may be particularly good for those with limited mobility, and we are reassured by the 20-year limited warranty that the mattress should age reasonably well.
